Each year CCG Marketing Solutions has a Fourth of July Company Picnic to celebrate the holiday. This year marks its transformation to the 1st Annual Picnic with a Purpose.

As part of CCG’s Emerging Leaders Program; Manny Cunha, Ansam Sadek, Ed Tomalo and Katie Sweeney were asked to create a team-building event in which the goal was to help a local organization in our community. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex County, NJ was selected to be this year’s recipient of the event’s proceeds.  Big Brothers Big Sisters was chosen because of its commitment to helping children reach their potential through its mentoring programs.  The concept of utilizing mentoring to provide children with a platform for success resonated greatly within the CCG employee population.

Independent research finds youth enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program are:

  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
  • 52% less likely to skip school

Picnic With a Purpose

Simon Hooks, CCG’s CEO, could not resist challenging the employees to raise monies not by typical sponsorships, but by pushing themselves physically to walk a distance around the CCG West Caldwell facility.  It was decided that CCG would donate to Big Brothers Big Sisters based upon the success of each participating employee walking or running laps around the vast grounds – a minimum of 3 miles was required within one hour with some employees completing up to 7 miles!

With the efforts of the forty-nine walkers, multiple volunteers and some generous donations, a total of $2,000 was raised on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex County, NJ. Next year the team has set the target of doubling this year’s fundraising total.Picnic With a Purpose 2
